Imagine a place where cyclists, runners and walkers alike feel safe recreating close to home on car-free greenways and trails. Now imagine that same experience could extend along the entire East Coast, from Maine to Florida.
This special live virtual event will bring to life the history and grand vision of the East Coast Greenway - a developing 3,000-mile, car-free multi-use trail. Hear directly from the East Coast Greenway Alliance to learn about about the history, vision, advocacy, partnership and passion that drives this project. We will focus on the greenway in Boston traveling north to Maine and south to Connecticut & Rhode Island.
Learn how to find the Greenway path closest to you and start planning your next adventure!
We'll conclude with Q&A and info about how to get involved.
Dennis Markatos-Soriano has served as executive director of the East Coast Greenway since 2009.
Under his watch, the Greenway has grown from 18 to 33 percent complete, adding more than 450 new miles of Greenway. Markatos-Soriano has nearly tripled the organization's funding through his cultivation of foundations, corporations and individual donors. And he has conceived and led ambitious programming for the Alliance, from regional conferences that gather and energize thought leaders to the recent East Coast River Relay, a two-month series of public events that marked the organization's 25th anniversary while also strengthening its partnerships, Maine to Florida.
Markatos-Soriano holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead and Byrd Scholar, and a master’s in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University, where he received the 2008 Bradford Prize for Academic & Civic Achievement in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy. Prior to joining the Alliance, he served as executive director of two nonprofit organizations he co-founded: Students United for a Responsible Global Environment (SURGE) and Sustainable Energy Transition.
Kristine joined the East Coast Greenway Alliance in July 2018. From her base close to Portland, Maine, she leads the development of the Greenway in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Kristine served previously as a community planner for the Mad River Valley Planning District in Vermont and as bicycle and pedestrian program coordinator for the City of Portland, Maine. She holds a master's degree in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science & International Affairs from American University.
In her free time, Kristine enjoys skiing, biking, sailing, surfing, climbing and canoeing around New England.
